Originally formed as the Utah Coalition of Interpretive Associations in April of 1993, the organization broadened its membership to include the entire Colorado Plateau in March of 1995 and became Peaks, Plateaus and Canyons Association.

Many original members were affiliated only with the National Park Service. As the organization grew, other partnerships were created including other federal agencies, states, counties, and cities and other non-profits.

PPCA Members have met twice each year since 1993 to share common accomplishments, stories and concerns and to work on mutually beneficial projects.
